Goldschmidt Knives are intended to last for generations, but if the knife is improperly used and badly cared for it will not last a long time..
Maintenance is very important for a knife, especially when it is a high-carbon steel blade.

Below is how you should care for your knife..

-After use, wash the blade and immediately dry it.

– Don’t put your knife in the dishwasher. The heat will damage the wooden handle.

– Coat the handle with vegetable oil once a week, and if you’re not going to use the knife for a few days oil the blade as well.

–  If rust or oxidation  stains appear on your knife scrub with 2000# sandpaper. If the stain doesn’t come out use steel wool   and alcohol. As the steel is exposed to different elements, it will begin naturally to oxidize, or patina. Overtime this patina will act as a protective layer against rusting and discolouration.  It will still perform well.

-Do not subject any part of the knife blade to temperatures in excess of 300 degrees Fahrenheit, you could destroy the result of the heat treatment.

– Keep your knife sharp!
